Yaotekayotl - Level 2

Ticket purchase necessary.

Yaotekayotl: “Exploring the Warrior Essence'' is an ongoing course that teaches the fundamentals of Indigenous Mexican Nawa Warrior Discipline, including self-defense martial arts, breathing techniques, postures, animal fighting styles, and the potential to learn the use of weapons. Throughout the course, you will not only learn how to defend yourself, but also gain a deeper understanding of the importance of discipline, integrity, centrality, and consistency in your everyday life. In addition to the physical training, you will also learn about the spiritual significance of the movements, including the connection between body, mind, spirit, and the forces of nature. This holistic approach to martial arts emphasizes the importance of being mindful and present in the moment, which can have a profound impact on your mental and emotional wellbeing.

The Yaotekayotl tradition places great importance on two animals, the ocelot and the eagle, Oselotl wan Kwawtli. Through studying the movements of the ocelot, you will gain insight into its ability to analyze situations and move with patience and grace, even in the darkness under the nocturnal influence of the moon. By studying the movements of the eagle on the other hand, you will learn how to harness your own focus and determination, and channel the energy of the sun to improve your physical and mental performance.

Together, they form a duality that embodies the principles of contraction and expansion, dark and light, and offer insight into how we can balance these opposing forces within ourselves to achieve harmony and balance. This course is suitable for anyone, regardless of age or experience level. Our practice starts with the sunrise, allowing you to connect with the natural rhythm of the day and experience the energy of the morning.

We will meet every Thursday from 5:30am-7am CST (Location in Pilsen, Chicago, IL, 60608, exact location sent after enrolling) Please arrive on time.
